Bronze vs. Brass vs. Black: Choosing a Metal Finish for Your Fixture
Two fixtures can share the same glass and feel completely different because of the metal. Choosing between brass, bronze and black is one of the most important decisions you will make — and one of the easiest to get right once you know how each behaves.
Satin brass — warm and classic
Brass brings warmth and a soft golden glow. Satin (brushed) brass is more understated than polished and ages gracefully. It flatters warm palettes — oak, cream, natural stone — and pairs naturally with alabaster and clear glass.
Antique bronze — deep and grounded
Bronze is darker and warmer than brass, with a rich, oil-rubbed depth. It grounds a room and suits traditional, transitional and moody-contemporary interiors. Against smoke or green glass it looks especially refined.
Matte black — graphic and modern
Black is the most architectural choice. It reads as a clean line rather than an ornament, and provides crisp contrast in pale, minimal rooms. Use it when you want the glass to glow and the frame to disappear into a silhouette.
How to choose
Match the finish to your dominant metals — taps, hardware, handles — rather than fighting them. Warm rooms take brass or bronze; cool, minimal rooms take black. When in doubt, brass is the most versatile. Many Rotlux pieces offer all three, so you can tune the same design to your space; see the options across the collection.
