Made-to-Order Lighting: What 'Carved From Stone' Really Means

When a fixture is described as made to order, it means it did not exist until you asked for it. For natural stone and hand-blown glass, that is not a marketing line — it is the only honest way to make the piece. Here is what actually happens.

It starts with raw material

Alabaster is quarried as a solid block and selected vein by vein — because the veining is natural, every panel is different. Hand-blown glass begins as molten gathers shaped one at a time. Nothing is pulled off a shelf.

Cut, carved and assembled for your order

Panels are cut, shaped and finished by hand, then assembled onto the metal frame in your chosen finish and size. This is why lead times exist: the fixture is being made, not picked. It is also why no two pieces are truly identical.

Why it is worth the wait

Made-to-order means you get the exact size, glass tone and metal finish your room needs — not the nearest stock option. It means real materials and real craftsmanship rather than moulded plastic pretending to be stone. And it means a piece with the character that only handwork gives. Explore what is possible in the Rotlux collection.

Planning around lead times

Because each order is crafted individually, plan your fixture early in a renovation or build — ideally when you finalise millwork and finishes. If you are specifying for a project, our Trade Program gives you a single point of contact, quotes within 24 hours and lead times planned around your schedule.
